Is it a record?
Another Welsh world record goes to Spillers Records on The Hayes in Cardiff. Established in 1894, it’s the world’s oldest record shop. Pop in and ask for some famous Welsh artists, from show-stopping originals Shirley Bassey or Tom Jones to the contemporary sounds of the Manic Street Preachers, Charlotte Church or the Super Furry Animals. In the mood for something more classical? Try the internationally famous baritone Bryn Terfel or the sublime voice of Katherine Jenkins.

The Bluffer's Guide to Wales

Wales is one of the three countries which make up Great Britain. It is situated in the western part of the country, surrounded by sea and bordering England to the East. Wales is an integrated part of the United Kingdom but it has its own Assembly, located in the capital, Cardiff.

It has a population of about 3 million people.

English is spoken by the whole population of Wales and, in addition, some 20% of Welsh people are bi-lingual, speaking also the ancient Celtic language of Welsh.

The national sport is rugby and on 1^st March, St David’s Day is celebrated in honour of Dewi Sant, our patron Saint.

Wales has superb mountains, lakes and a splendid coastline. It offers excellent opportunities for activities such as walking, riding, cycling, golf and sailing.

Access to this special country is easy. Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is only 2 hours from London. There are excellent rail and coach links from all the main UK airports.
